ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in Turkey. It analyses the CSR reports of 16 companies according to the contribution of the companies in Turkish society based on five major areas, which are economic, corporate governance, human capital, environment and community involvement. The chapter discusses information about social and cultural dimensions in their CSR reports. The government needs to play a constructive role in the development of CSR practices. Qualitative research was used to present the pattern of CSR decisions of companies situated in Turkey with CSR reports representing the main source. Although the Turkish stock exchange is encouraging companies to publish corporate governance reports, the guidelines for CSR practices are not obligatory and in our view the government should make them so. In addition, the companies try to arrange their relationship with their stakeholders as part of their CSR policy.
