ABSTRACT

Innovative partnerships between NGOs, universities and the private sector is gaining increased momentum as a means to ensuring poverty alleviation based on a market-driven approach. Knowledge is, however, scarce on how these partnerships are being formulated and implemented. This chapter sets out to identify the do’s and don’ts in joint partnership innovation. This is based on the experiences gained by the access2innovation network, which in the period 2007–11 launched four partnerships that essentially show that cross-sector partnerships are not “business as usual” and hold a number of challenges for everyone involved.
