ABSTRACT

Klaus Heine defines luxury as something desirable and more than a necessity. However this luxury has given way to the new luxury through its democratisation that occurred when family and artisanal luxury companies sagged against the large conglomerates which had a strong focus on economic aspects. The report Deeper Luxury points out that the consumers of luxury products and services are motivated by aspirations and these encompass deep values including environmental and social issues. Sustainable luxury would not only be the vehicle for more respect for the environment and social development, but it will also be synonymous to culture, art and innovation of different nationalities, maintaining the legacy of local craftsmanship. The mission of the Center for Studies on Sustainable Luxury is to assist luxury companies in their transition to sustainability, thus encouraging sustainable business practices across all areas of the organisation and its supply chain.
