ABSTRACT

Whistleblowing is an issue in all professions with regard to an array of topics and is particularly important in the engineering profession. This chapter discusses the issue of engineers' whistleblowing. It provides the definition and special features of whistleblowing and analyzes the nature of whistleblowing by reviewing the formative history of engineering briefly. Generally, Whistleblowing can be divided into four different aspects: according to the recipient of whistleblowing, there is internal and external whistleblowing. The former occurs when the recipient of whistleblowing is inside the whistleblower's organization, and the latter occurs conversely. According to the ways of whistleblowing, there will be open and anonymous whistleblowing. The former occurs when someone takes whistleblowing action without revealing his/her identity or asks not to be named openly (a few people to a limited extent know his/her name), and the latter occurs conversely.
