ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part presents in the mitigation sessions at the Alexandria Conference, focuses on the issue through considering the impacts and effectiveness of a wide range of mitigation actions. It represents a stimulating and wide variety of methods and styles, and provides an overview of some of the most important types of approaches to mitigation. The part demonstrates both the potential of mitigation activities and the numerous barriers to successful mitigation that exist in the contemporary world. It provides a key message for the mitigation field: these activities need to be approached in a way that integrates them into overall national development planning, rather than treating them as separate and stand-alone activities. The part looks at the impact of a range of household energy efficiency products on domestic fuel use levels in a remote and mountainous area in northern Pakistan.
