ABSTRACT

Automobile manufacturers and dealers have an obligation to make their advertising and sales campaigns more informative. In addition, there is a need to enhance the legal rights of the buyer. Financing cars presents almost every possible pitfall and snare in consumer credit, ranging from exorbitant interest rates to confessions of judgment. Abuses in automobile financing loom large in the complaint files of better business bureaus and consumer agencies. Tires can be compared, in this respect, with carpeting. Carpet of bulked filament fibers that are strongly sewn to the backing can produce stronger carpet than abundant wool staples sewn so loosely that they shed and leave bald spots. Customer problems with automobiles can concern the original manufacturer of the equipment and the car, the local dealer at the point of final sale, and both dealer and manufacturer. The customer is often buffeted between the dealer and manufacturer.
