ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors provide three major themes as to what it is believed lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) will do. One theme states that LSD will lead to psychological growth, unfolding, or expanded being. One theme states that LSD will lead to psychological growth, unfolding, or expanded being. The psychological benefits attributed to LSD are said to accrue to mentally healthy persons as well as to mentally distressed ones. The second theme which becomes an institutional purpose is that LSD leads to religious experiences. The third theme is that LSD facilitates art. LSD releases creative potentials which enable a person to be an artist, free of the inhibitions or failures in sensitivity which had prevented the release of creative capacities presumed to be innate in everyone. LSD can be used as a device for social engineering, a “Utopiate” to construct more pleasing surroundings and to mold people to one’s desire.
