ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some of the important international implications of various foreign policy options which the United States has already adopted, or which it might contemplate for future execution. The United Nations machinery for dealing with various human rights issues is available, and the specialized agencies are also constantly increasing their capability for dealing with human rights issues. There is relationship between economics and human rights which should be taken into account. Whenever the United Nations or the United States contemplates an action which might affect human rights in a country, a human rights impact statement should be required. Another problem in the economic field is that it is very difficult for one country to try to enforce human rights standards by unilateral action. The United Nations machinery for dealing with various human rights issues is available, and the specialized agencies are also constantly increasing their capability for dealing with human rights issues.
