ABSTRACT

Witnessed ritual, with carefully chosen words, can serve to enhance and reinforce relationships and create binding ties. In the absence of the extended family and in days when families separate while they have dependent children, the role of godparents could be of more value than ever. They have offered the support in public must strengthen their ties to the family and make it easier to seek their help when needed. The parents will provide the example from which the child learns about caring, trust, tolerance, generosity of spirit, loyalty and all the other worthy qualities which go towards a binding intimate friendship. In some ways a child welcoming ceremony is more important than a marriage or funeral. The society is a completely independent body with no religious, philosophical or political affiliation whose services are available to any parent or family wishing to celebrate a new child.
