ABSTRACT

Implementing the steps and the mechanisms to develop employability calls for different actors in the enterprise: the employer or the workers or their representatives. The employer's role is of major importance as a factor for providing the means and the information for employability promotion. The workers' representatives participate in fostering employability in the enterprise, since they play a role in making the workers aware of their interests and of the need to maintain their employability. The worker's employability is put to the test at the time of hiring, during the course of the work contract and in case of a threat of collective dismissal. At each one of these stages, measures involving the enterprises may be applied, thus increasing the chances of workers' employability meeting the employer's expectations. Education, occupational training, volunteer work, self-employed work, domestic chores are some of the socially useful forms of work that contribute to build up an individual's "professional status.
