ABSTRACT

Since the collapse of the communist regime in Eastern Europe, I have been eager to consult the communist security files from the period of 1948-90, a period called the era of the Third Resistance in the Czech Republic (the first having begun in 1914 and the second in 1939 against Nazi Germany). My request for a permit to consult the files deposited in the archives was approved on 4-5 October 1994, by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Martin Fendrych, and the Minister of the Interior, Jan Ruml. The Director of the Archives, Jan Frolĺk, informed me about the decision on 15 February 1995.
