ABSTRACT

It is no secret that government regulation is not generally held in high esteem by the business community. There is one kind of regulation, however, which has earned the dogged support of at least one segment of that community. Specifically, the regulated highway carriers of freight are ardent proponents of continued economic regulation of the trucking industry. Virtually every is sue of Transport Topics, the weekly news publication of the American Trucking Associations, contains one or more accounts of the activities of the “deregula tors” who seek to plunge the industry into chaos and confusion.
