ABSTRACT

Undertaken at the behest of the Commission of Enquiry into the Activities of Nazism in Argentina (CEANA), one of more than twenty historical commissions that were established in a similar number of countries since the 1990s, the fruits of such research grow with the additional work by another CEANA colleague, in this case namely with German sources. All four pieces are accompanied by Ruth Stanley’s valuable work. Created in 1997 as a result of heightened sensitivity towards the presence of Nazis, as shown by Argentina’s post-1983 elected governments, and in tune with developments on the international scene, CEANA enjoyed ab initio the logistical and material support of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, while answerable to an International Panel and an Advisory Committee made up of some twenty individuals of different political stripes the former, as well as more than a dozen non-governmental and other organizations the latter.
