ABSTRACT

The half binding is finished to the point of "pasting down" and lettering, which is the same in all books and will be treated later. In the half binding, it can be disposed of by allowing the edge to be slighttly out of the straight line, and trimming it after it is dry. The leather is pushed firmly along with the palm of the band, taking care to keep it even so that it does not turn over the edge much farther at one point than at another, and taking great pains also to see that it sticks on the edges. With a pair of scissors the bunch of superfluous leather is cut off, not so close as to run any risk of its gaping at any point. The last process before "Finishing" or "Tooling" is "crushing".
