ABSTRACT

It has been shown that in spite of the fact that Chief Healy's orders to the police were to avoid all unnecessary violence, one girl was beaten so severely that her breast bone was fractured; others have been hit on the head and body so that they carried the marks for days. Still other strikers have been seriously injured by private detectives in the employ of the manufacturers in the presence of the police without interference on the part of the latter. The affidavits as to these instances have been presented to the City Council and are a matter of record. The trials are called for next week.
