ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts given in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book gives an account on Ethiopia and the colonial discourse related to this country. It deals with the Great Imperial Game in the Horn of Africa and Its Impact on Current Political Processes in Somalia. The book analyzes the Importance of Djibouti for economy and politics in the Horn of Africa. It focuses on the Gambia between French and British Interests and discusses Colonial Heritage and Post-Colonial Realities. The book insights into French images of the French Protectorate in Tunisia based on the study of travelers' accounts from the end of the nineteenth century. It gives an account in the recruitment process and the reasons and causes of labor migration from colony to another. The book then focuses on two landlocked countries influenced by imperial policies of two European powers such as Great Britain and Portugal, for many years.
