ABSTRACT

The structure of this final chapter is different from what has gone before. The curriculum 11 to 16 has been discussed in detail in Chapters 1 to 6; an alternative curriculum 11 to 16 proposed in Chapter 9; and assessment at 16 discussed in Chapter 10. It is much harder to separate curriculum and assessment at the 16-to-19 phase, where there is no National Curriculum as such, but where there are Department for Education subject criteria that define both course content and assessment for each qualification in English. For this reason, I discuss here the content and the assessment of English 16 to 19 together.
