ABSTRACT

It is well established that medication adherence is a complex behavior and that much more than simple memory processes determine adherence performance (Park & Mayhorn, 1996; Pesznecker, Patsdaughter, Moody, & Albert, 1990; Rudd, 1993). In this chapter, I attempt to illustrate the complexity of medication adherence by portraying this task as a process that involves many steps in which subjective and objective influences intertwine to affect behavior.
