Assessing the Child's and the Environment's Contribution to Reading Acquisition: What We Know aṅd What We Don't Know

The work we describe in this chapter is concerned with or has consequences for intervention in reading acquisition. Each of the research studies has told us something about the process of reading acquisition, but in each case there are still unanswered questions. Here we try to summarize what we have learned in each case, and what we have yet to learn. Some of the data have been in print for several years, and some are new.
