ABSTRACT
There they were. Sitting on the stage of the Bass Conceit Hall at the University of Texas, a social science experiment writ large, lifted from sampling frame to fruition. Delegates to the National Issues Convention (NIC) were in Austin to talk and listen and, if the social science experiment testing Deliberative Polling worked, to influence the course of dialogue in the 1996 presidential election.
