ABSTRACT
Sentence understanding is an important part of language comprehension. In some sense, it plays a central role in language comprehension in that sentences constitute the elementary form of information transmission in language communication. However, in the study of Chinese language comprehension, sentence understanding received much less attention than character and word recognition. As far as I know, studies of sentence understanding, only a few in number, are chiefly focused on the roles of factors affecting comprehension. In this chapter, therefore, I mainly introduce and review the studies in this respect.
