ABSTRACT

I enjoyed this study and think it addresses a crucial issue in distance learning, in particular, but for all of synchronous collaborative technology in general: how to provide for awareness of participants actions and perceptions. The future availability of high-bandwidth communications will allow possibly several video streams to link two remote sites. Thus what may appear to be a somewhat unusual configuration of cameras and monitors used in this work may in fact become commonplace. Figuring out how to configure a transparently useful technology in this kind of context is therefore interesting.
