ABSTRACT

Many factors influence our actions and interactions in the social world. Issues of race and gender affect our lives greatly, but another area that influences our lives has not been looked at closely-social class. In a world that places so much importance on economics and individual achievement, the social hierarchies that accompany economic structures are the basis for most of our social interactions. We are socialized in a class system and are taught class values from the beginning. We attend schools that are segregated on the basis of class, and people from different classes receive different educations. Poor neighborhoods do not generate enough money to fully support their school systems. The children who go to these schools are poor, so the children who need it the most often do not get an adequate education.
