ABSTRACT
Like their classical counterparts, contemporary writers search for “places” from which to secure information. However, instead of the mental trek through a pre-Gutenberg catalogue of schemes, tropes, and commonplaces, today’s rhetor often identifies electronic loci on a computer monitor and manipulates both alphabetic and nonalphabetic symbols to access information externally.
