ABSTRACT

This chapter involves the use of empirical data from various countries on variables of ∜attitude∝ and ∜behavior∝ toward environment issues. The focus is on the between-country variation of the relationships among attitude and behavior variables. The peculiarities of the data permit the use of alternative approaches to Structural equation models (SEM) analysis with large number of groups, a large sample size in each group and non-normality in manifest variables. The data are extracted from the International Social Survey Programme 1993, involving 22 countries. The chapter examines how alternative approaches to SEM analysis compare in the presence of non-normality across a reasonable number of countries, each of which has a large sample size. Given the particular type of data and model, a comparison between multiple-group and the single-group multiple indicator multiple causes (MIMIC) approach is also possible. Finally, a substantive aim of the chapter is to explore the variation across countries in terms of attitude and behavior variables toward Environment.
