ABSTRACT

This is a chapter about adults’ beliefs about the nature of knowledge and learning, or epistemological beliefs. I am writing this chapter with the assumption that a wide variety of people will read it, from those who have never heard of epistemological beliefs to those who have, themselves, been studying epistemological beliefs. Interested readers may include graduate students, university professors, adult educators, adult caregivers, educational administrators, business administrators, and business trainers. With this broad audience in mind I have decided to write as if you and I were engaged in a fireside chat. Of course, I am limited to putting words in your mouth, but when you are finished reading this chapter, you always have the option of contacting me and having a true one-on-one chat.
