ABSTRACT

What treatments can make the postconcussion syndrome (PCS) worse? Two examples stand out. One is the prescription of heroic headache treatments, which can sometimes lead to rebound headache and drug dependence. This is as true of drugs like the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and sumatriptan as it is of the opiates. Posttraumatic headache can be the devil to treat; one of the ironies of traumatic brain

injury is that the most severe problems with cephalgia often attend the least severe head injuries.
