ABSTRACT
If the unexamined life is not worth living, as Plato concluded, then to stay alive as teachers we should be reflecting on the teaching life. We might engage in Zen meditation, spiritual exercises, or guided imagery and thereby gain some insight into the nature and meaning of what we do. My purpose in this chapter is to show that the teaching portfolio, with reflection, can produce that insight and help us make significant changes in our teaching lives.
