Let us start with a little demonstration. Make a list of your best teachers in high school, college, or graduate school, defining best as the ones from whom you learned the most. Then identify what, if anything, they had in common. Any good study has a control group, so then make a list of your worst instructors, from whom you learned the least, and again identify what they had in common.
