ABSTRACT

This chapter is about how AARP1 decides what to put on its Web site-what policies and guidelines are in place. It is divided into three segments:

1. how AARP Webplace evolved-how we got to where we are, 2. what the current policies are, and 3. what we’re learning and how that effects our decisions about Web

content

HOW AARP WEBPLACE EVOLVED

AARP Webplace evolved from the commitment of a few staff from around the AARP who understood the Internet and anticipated its value as a communication tool. They took time to educate the rest of us. The individuals formed informal work groups to establish an early online presence for AARP. They remain leaders and guides to the design and content on the Web site.
