ABSTRACT

Media images contribute to the socialization of young people across a broad range of areas, particularly those in which the viewer has relatively limited real-world experience (Huston et al., 1992). By the onset of adolescence, most young people develop interest in learning about sexual matters, although they tend to lack much direct experience in this realm (Hyde & Delameter, 1997). Consequently, the media provide important learning opportunities for adolescents to observe sexual norms and behaviors in action.
