ABSTRACT
A woman has seen the movie Pulp Fiction three times. She considers the movie to be outrageously amusing and inventively clever. Years ago, wanting others to share in this movie, she encouraged a group of graduate-school friends to attend it with her. As it turned out, her friends were completely perplexed by her attraction to such a violence-packed movie. They were particularly troubled by the fact that, during the viewing, many members of the college audience screamed out their approval and clapped wildly during the most violent scenes. After the movie, the avid Pulp Fiction fan received a stern lecture from her friends (all budding young social psychologists) about the negative effects of exposure to this type of media stimulus. At least one of these friends had never before attended such a violent movie and he reported that he would never do so again.
