ABSTRACT

The paper deals with the disadvantages of non-native speakers as compared to native speakers of English, for instance in international scientific communication. It discusses possibilities of amelioration, in particular the postulate of the non-native speakers’ right to linguistic peculiarities. By agreement with the editor of the volume, and in order to exemplify the problem of native speaker norms and privileges presented here, the language has not been ‘corrected’, apart from items retrieved by a spell check.
