ABSTRACT
AT the dawn of the 21st century, it is well to take stock of key assumptions, trends, issues, controversies, and challenges within the sub-areas of communication study. First, I will demonstrate the centrality of ethics to the human communication process and to the communication profession. Then I will illustrate seven current trends in communication ethics scholarship. Finally, I will investigate six controversies or challenges in the development of communication ethics for a postmodern age.
