ABSTRACT

This chapter considers conceptual issues associated with the Network Faculty Development Committees's (NFDC) work. It analyzes the implications of the model for research and practice regarding identity and organizational change. Identity, actions, and relationships form the three central constructs of the triangle model. The heart of the triangle model is in these constructs and the cognitive and affective linkages between them; each central construct affects the other two. Links between identity and relationships with stakeholders have both cognitive and affective components. A positive relationship and trust are important, because if something new is to be tried in an organizational setting, stakeholders must have at least some minimal level of respect for and trust in the change agent group. Factors that affect relationships with stakeholders include efforts taken to make the relationship more or less positive, and the interdependency between the groups.
