ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the prediction derived from self-determined learning theory that achievement and self-determination are positively correlated. The reasoning for this prediction is as follows. If people who are self-determined learners know how to optimize learning challenges to maximize their learning, they will be high in achievement. And if those people also know how to optimize their adjustments to meet self-determined goals, they will be high in self-determination. Therefore people high in achievement will be high in self-determination. Hence achievement and self-determination should correlate.
