ABSTRACT

As a parent of children with learning disabilities (LD), I was hopeful when the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) started the process to open discussion on the identification and assessment of children with LD. As we gear up for another reauthorization of the law that protects our children (the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA]), it is evident that once again it will be a task of supreme effort. So the discussion at OSEP, with their work group proceeding to gather the most current information on the key issues surrounding LD, seems especially on target.
