ABSTRACT

Fans of the television show The Simpsons, are familiar with the many mistakes of Homer, the main character. In one episode, Homer has a conversation with his wife in which he implies that he is going to work, but, after every work-related utterance, he thinks about how he intends to go to the local brewery instead. At one point, he gets confused between what he is saying and what he is thinking and mistakenly blurts out that he is going to the brewery. He thinks to himself “Uh, oh! Did I say that or just think it?” He finds the devastating answer to his question when his wife curiously asks him if he is going to the brewery (for further information, see Groening, 1997).
