ABSTRACT

Restarting an utterance is a common practice in natural, everyday conversation (Schegloff, 1987). Restarts (or recyclings) regularly occur at turn beginnings and serve a variety of functions, including attention-seeking (Goodwin, 1980; Heath, 1984; Schegloff, 1987).
