ABSTRACT

There are few topics as inflammatory and controversial as sexual offending. A clinician who must work with a sex offender may be troubled by many questions, both personal and professional: Is a sex offender sick, bad, or both? Can a sex offender change? If so, how can we know if the change is real? Is it better that he be locked up indefinitely, just in case? Will working with a sex offender endanger me? How do I work with someone if I hate what he’s done?
