ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book summarizes existing path models developed to test process mechanisms of the effects of general mental ability (GMA) on work outcomes and the relations between many life outcomes and GMA scores. It presents substantial correlations between GMA scores and everyday activities, such as finding which route in a map. The book shows how job complexity varies across jobs, and as a result the extent of adverse impact varies across jobs when GMA is used for selection. It compares the cognitive complexity of environments to test item difficulty. The book also shows that theoretical obtuseness should not be used to discredit or confuse the literature to satisfy socially motivated goals. It describes the lawful relation between the g-loadedness of tests and their validity in predicting complex task performance.
