ABSTRACT

Pediatric health and behavioral problems represent a topic of critical concern to educators and health care professionals. Approximately 6.5% to 8% of U.S. children and adolescents are impacted by one or more chronic health conditions, including asthma, juvenile diabetes, and blood-related disorders (Childstats, 2001; Newacheck & Halfon, 1998). It has been estimated that chronic illness results in millions of physician contacts and days of child school absence (Newacheck & Halfon, 1998).
