ABSTRACT
I vividly remember years ago reading an article by Jim Corder, a professor at Texas Christian University. Corder was then a person of considerable repute in L1 writing, and I’d heard him speak numerous times at national and regional conferences. Whenever I came across his name on a program or in a book, I sought him out because I liked his reflective manner, his humor, his discourse style, and the way he left me with ideas to mull over. To me, he spoke and wrote as if he were communicating with someone he’d known for a long time, someone he valued and respected.
