ABSTRACT

The practice of consultee-centered consultation is based on several principles that are not only most effectively achieved in a reflective practice, but are almost marked for failure without a reflective approach. These principles include:

An understanding of the interactions between sociocultural and psychosocial forces.

The need for an explicit agreement between the parties involved.

A noncoercive relationship between the consultant and the consultee.

Objective focus on the case rather than on the interpersonal conflicts of the consultee.

An objective to widen the consultee’s frame of reference.

The necessity for consultant training.
