ABSTRACT
Decades of research have documented the considerable gap in achievement between children attending low-income urban schools and children from more prosperous communities. More recent research has considered possible causes of this gap and potential remedies, including summer school and extended-year programs. We consider one application of research in this area with our description of the extended-year program offered by Voyager Expanded Learning, and we present the results of recent program evaluations.
