ABSTRACT

This chapter presents motivation can be enhanced by telling participants that they learn a great deal about their own touch experiences by doing the recordings, a promise that was verified by the testimony. The log recording method was designed to deal with the behavioral communication measure that allows for the recording of detailed information about each event involving touch, facilitates the study of individual differences by providing samples of each person's touch experiences over time, and also permits the examination of trends across individuals. As Stier and Hall noted, diary or log methods have greater face validity for the measurement of touch than do questionnaires because recordings are made immediately after each event. The chapter describes the touch log record method which is utilized in each of the six studies includes: touch meanings, touch prohibitions, sex differences in touch, jourard's body-accessibility questionnaire, and touch measures and social self-confidence.
