ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe a methodology that permits detailed study of a decision maker’s experiences in time-pressured, high-stakes, complex, dynamic, multiperson task environments. The methodology is minimally reactive and generates rich data in the form of verbal protocols allowing cognitive process tracing. In summary, the methodology involves a decision maker wearing a lightweight head-mounted video camera while engaged in a decision task. Subsequently, the decision maker views his or her own-point-of-view video footage with associated audio; this cues detailed recollections of the psychological processes (affects and cognitions) that generated intentions and actions.
