ABSTRACT

In this final chapter, we summarize the 19 chapters in the present volume. Our discussion is arranged in seven parts. First, we attempt to provide the overall picture by sketching out a new perspective on decision making that shines through all of the chapters. Second, we discuss theoretical advances. Third, we summarize essential findings that extend the list of routine effects we discussed in the introduction. Fourth, we consider methodological advances in decision research in the field and in the lab. Fifth, we focus on applied research and give some examples of how expert decision makers can be trained to improve their decision routines. After discussing emerging themes in decision research, we close with outlining possible directions for future research.
