ABSTRACT

It’s mid-October, and an unfamiliar face shows up at my door to remind me about the first meeting of many that I’ll be attending because she, a counselor, will be working with my class this year. It’s been a busy first month of school, and quite frankly, I only vaguely remember getting the memo about this. All I can think about is “when”? When is there a free 40 minutes in an already overpacked schedule to have a counselor come in to teach my students about feelings? And meetings? What will I have to give up in order to attend them? How important is it really, that I add a social-emotional development component to my curriculum?
