WHOSE FIRST AMENDMENT? COHEN V. COWLES MEDIA CO.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Cohen v. Cowles Media Co. remains enormously important for the limitations it placed on news media conduct. By affirming the principle of general applicability, the Court held that media organizations do not have First Amendment immunity from laws that apply to nonmedia members of the public.
